BLACKSTARS TO PLAY TWO FRIENDLIES IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER


The Ghana Football Association have confirmed two international friendlies for the Blackstars in the month of October.

Ghana will play Mali and Equatorial Guinea in two separate friendly games in Antalya, Turkey.

The Blackstars will play Mali on Friday, October 9, before facing Equatorial Guinea on Monday, October 12, 2020. Both games will be played behind closed doors and under strict COVID-19 protocols.

The two games will help Coach C.K Akonnor to prepare his side for November’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Ghana top Group F with 6 points following victories against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in November 2019.

CHELSEA: OLIVIER GIROUD EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH THE BLUES

French striker Olivier Giroud has extended his stay at Chelsea and will be a part of manager Frank Lampard's plans for the 2020/21 season. Giroud joined Chelsea on a deadline day transfer from Arsenal in January 2018, he has gone on to make 39 starts and 37 sub appearances and scored 21 goals for the blues. Frank Lampard on Giroud: ‘Since I have been back at Chelsea, Olivier has been brilliant as a professional and as a man in general. ‘He has great qualities to help the squad both on and off the pitch, not only with his talent but with the example he sets every day and the experience he brings to our young squad. I am very pleased that will continue next season.’ Giroud had emphasised his importance to the squad by taking on the responsibility of leading the attack with Tammy Abraham injured, and making an important contribution, not least when he expertly found the net to open the scoring in a win against Tottenham in February, and helped to knock Liverpool out

FOOTBALL NEWS: LIGUE 1 CANCELLED OVER FEARS OF CORONAVIRUS

The 2019-20 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons were brought to a sudden end due to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday. French prime minister Edouard Philippe announced in a speech to the National Assembly that professional football will not be able to resume before September. That means the 2019-20 campaign is over, with the next domestic fixtures coming at the start of the 2020-21 season. No announcement was made with regards to what it means for the titles, European places or relegation and promotion, with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) expected to make a decision during their next meeting in May.
